DBT Therapy for Teens & Adolescents: Emotional Regulation & Healthy Coping

Teen years can be emotionally intense and overwhelming. Many adolescents struggle with mood swings, impulsivity, anxiety, or difficulty coping with stress. At our Aurora therapy centre, we offer Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) for teens and adolescents to help young people develop the skills they need to navigate life with more stability and resilience.

How It Works
DBT combines cognitive-behavioural strategies with mindfulness and emotional regulation techniques. Teens learn tools across four core areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. These skills help them respond to challenges more calmly, set healthy boundaries, and make thoughtful decisions.

Why It Helps
DBT is especially effective for teens who experience strong emotional reactions, self-harm behaviours, interpersonal conflict, or symptoms of anxiety and depression. It empowers them to understand their feelings, manage impulses, and improve communication. Parents often notice more emotional balance and reduced conflict at home.

What to Expect
DBT sessions are structured, collaborative, and adapted to the teen’s age and needs. They include practical exercises, real-life examples, and take-home skills to reinforce learning. Family support or parent coaching may also be part of the process.

If your teen is feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, or struggling in relationships, DBT therapy offers a compassionate and structured approach to help them build lifelong tools for well-being.
